Think you know the mind of the Bruce? Think you know what the best formation to take on Italy is? We’ll here is your chance to put yourself to the test. Correctly guess the Starting XI for each of the three group stage games win eternal glory!

Actually, the prize for the winner will be: Respect, public recognition on this site, a prominent link to your website/blog, and, drumroll please, a copy of the Journey to Germany DVD!

This contest will span the 3 group stage games. Whoever accumulates the most points will be declared the winner.

Here are the rules:

  • At the top of the entry form are several formations to choose from. Select the one that you think the US will use for the beginning of the game.
  • Next, from the drop down boxes that appear, select the players you think will start at each position. Make sure not to select any player twice.
  • At the bottom, enter your name, email address, and website if you have one. This is so we can let you know that you are the winner.
  • All entries must be made no later than 24 hours before the kickoff of each game (and no earlier then the final whistle of the preceeding match).
  • The method of determining the winner is as follows: One point is awarded for each player correctly selected as a starting, regardless of their positioning on the field. Then, one point will be awarded for each field player placed in the corrected positions on the field. Finally 5 extra bonus points will be awarded for selecting the correct formation. There are 26 points possible per game.
  • If two or more contestants have the same number of points, the winner will be determined by who selected the correct substitutes.
  • If there is still a tie, the person who submitted their lineup first will be declared the winner.
  • All decisions, disputes and other inquiries will be decided by the judgement of the Pseudo Corner Kick team. Their decisions are final. ‘The decision’ will be determined by a majority vote of the three of us. (Why does this matter? Well, was Donovan a withdrawn attacker or an attacking midfielder at the beginning of the game? Again, the majority vote of the three of us will determine.)
