The Bruce speaks

Bruce Areana does an interview the the League Managers Association website. Nothing earth shattering, althought he does say in Regards to Giuseppe Rossi:

“The player has expressed an interest in playing for Italy. Therefore, we will respect his decision.”

Also, on coaching a European club team:

“I do have aspirations to coach in Europe. I would love to have an opportunity to manage in the Premiership. As with any manager or player, moving to a new club or country requires a period of adjustment. However, I believe with the right club and the right time to adjust, I could be successful.”

Claudio to play, buys Manhattan apartment

Claudio Reyna will see his first match tonight with the Man City reserves as they travel to play the Bolton Wanderers.

This story about Claudio buying a Manhattan apartment popped up on my Google News Alerts. Totally irrelevant but interesting anyway.

U.S. Roster vs Poland

20-man roster for the March 1st game against Poland. It’s a European heavy roster filled out by a few MLSers.

I wouldn’t read too much into who isn’t there (Pope, Hejduk)…The Bruce needs to take a look at his Euro guys. But this is a big camp for some of the Euro players, more specifically guys like Jonathan Spector and Tim Howard. It is probably their last chance to impress Bruce and solidify a spot on the 23 man roster.

Light Blogging

Apologies for the light blogging as of late (I’m writing this as if anyone is actually reads the site). I haven’t felt motivated to write much, for three reasons:

1) I don’t think the recent MNT friendlies are all that significant. Sure, for individuals, it was very important. I think guys like Twellman,Dempsey, Dunivant, Conrad, Pope, etc, have shown that they are going to make it tough for Bruce to fill out his list for Germany. Beating the snot out of Guatemala 4-0 feels nice, but it won’t mean diddly come June.

2) As for all the other silly stories out there in USA soccer land, i.e. Houston 1836 changing their name because Texas was basically ’stolen’ from Mexico (170 years ago mind you), and accusations that DC United coach Peter Nowak made some sort of racial remark in a match against Real Salt Lake, I have refrained from commenting as I fear any post would become a rant about race in America, etc etc, which is neither appropriate given the focus of PCK, nor would I want my opinions attributed to my fellow contributors, Bobby and David.

3)I have been much distracted by my other sport, hockey. Of the Olympic sort.

I’m working on some cool ideas for the site, but they will probably involve PHP and MySQL, which I do not know right now. I am also trying to get my PhD at the current time, so learning PHP and MySQL isn’t at the top of my todo list. Soon, though, soon. You’ll like them. Prizes may be involved.

The List

Marc Connolly has a round up of the evolution of the ‘List’, and who has made a case for themselves to make a trip to Germany this summer. Here is a transcript and audio link of Bruce Arena’s press conference discussing camp and the roster.

New USMNT Jerseys

Here are the new 2006 US Jerseys to be worn at the World Cup in Germany.

It certainly has a classic look and feel to it…

Eh?

An article from the US State Department about the MNT in the World Cup? Interesting.

Seeming written for the non-soccer fan (maybe I should say pre-’soccer fan’, as a I hope they do become fans after watching), it actually has a nice little summary about our 3 first round opponents. Myernick picks Brazil as his favorite to win the Cup.

I must confess this is the first I have heard of the “Hammer Group”. Is this supposed to be one below the “Group of Death”?

Will you be paying attention when it gets here?

Two interesting articles popped up on my Google News alerts. First, a nice little piece about the real football championship. Also, an article from the Korean Times about a practice game between S. Korea and the US yesterday. The US fell 2-1. Apparently the game was broken down into three 30 minute periods, as so doesn’t count towards the team’s record. No word on who scored the goal.
Also, make sure to scroll down and check out Bobby’s Eric Wynalda rant.

THIS DOES IT!!! THIS ARTICLE ONLY SOLIDIFIES

my hatred of Eric Wynalda.

I just thank the Lord he is not the National Team coach. What an idiot.

He cites Arena’s love fest with Brian McBride, but it is quite obvious he’s the one with a mancrush…on Taylor Twellman.

Who does he think he is? This bears repeating…just thank the Lord he is not the National Team coach.

I’m beside myself with anger and fury right now…
