In a battle of Premier League sides boasting Americans, Manchester United defeated Fulham 3-2. Brian McBride started and was subbed off in the 71st minute. McBride’s created Fulham’s first goal with a flick-on to fellow striker Collins John. Carlos Bocanegra started in central defense and went the distance with a new defensive partner, Alain Goma. Boca was credited with an early goal line clearance. And as usual, Tim Howard was stuck on United’s bench.
Brad Friedel recorded a clean sheet in Blackburn Rovers’ 2-nil win over West Bromwich Albion. Jemal Johnson did not make the matchday squad for Rovers.
Charlton Athletic allowed three unanswered goals to Tottenham Hotspur after scroing two of their own in a 3-2 loss. Jonathan Spector came on in the 85th and was thrown up top as Charlton were looking for an equalizer.
Claudio Reyna was out with a neck injury in Manchester City’s 2-nil win over struggling Everton. Manchester City has said that Reyna’s injury is not serious and should be ready to go next time City step onto the pitch.
Reading beat Sheffield United 2-1, and trail United by three points at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship table. Marcus Hahnemann started in goal for Reading, and Bobby Convey started and went 68 minutes.
Eddie Lewis started and went 65 minutes in Leeds United’s nil-nil draw with Watford. Watford’s Jay DeMerit did not make the squad for Watford.
Frankie Simek played the entire game in Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-2 come from behind win over Coventry City.
Steve Cherundolo will be out again after it was revealed his knee injury has not completely healed.
Kasey Keller recorded another clean sheet in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 1-nil victory over Conor Casey’s side Mainz. Casey has been out all season so far with a knee injury.
Gregg Berhalter started and went 90 at left back in Energie Cottbus’ 3-2 loss to Karlsruher.
DaMarcus Beasley started and assisted on PSV Eindhoven’s first goal in their 3-2 win over Heereneveen. However, Beasley reinjured his hamstring and was substituted out at half time. PSV has not released any more news on DMB’s injury.
The two other Americans in the Dutch league, John O’Brien and Cory Gibbs remain out through injury.
