Results from games over the weekend involving Yanks Abroad:
Kasey Keller was in goal for Borussia Monchengladbach’s 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich. Having been left out to dry by his defense, Keller is now the first person to let in a goal at Bayern Munich’s new stadium. German magazine Kicker rated Keller a 3.5 (out of 1-5, 1 being best).
Oguchi Onyewu anchored Standard Liege’s defense for 90 minutes in their 3-1 win over Lierse. Onyewu was second in voting for MotM on the club’s website.
Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey both started as Reading opened the Coca Cola Championship with a last minute 2-1 loss to Plymouth. Convey played on the left wing but was subbed off after 75 minutes and Hahnemann was said not to have been at fault for either goal.
Eddie Lewis had a good game for his new team Leeds in their 2-1 victory over Millwall. A goal was scored off of a Lewis corner, and Lewis was MotM material.
Frankie Simek started at right back for Sheffield Wednesday and had a good match despite a rough early showing in Sheffield’s nil-nil draw.
Jay DeMerit started in the center of defense for Watford in a 2-1 loss to Lewis’ old club Preston.
Gregg Berhalter scored on a penalty kick as Bundesliga 2 side Energie Cottbus opened its season with a 2-1 win. Kicker rated Berhalter a 4.
Brian West scored a spectacular goal in Fredriktad’s 2-1 loss to Odd Grenland.
